Warwick SU is powered by student democracy 🗳. Our Democracy Assistants make that power visible — helping deliver Elections, All Student Votes (ASVs), and the Union Awards, and ensuring every student’s voice can be heard.
You’ll be the approachable, impartial face of SU democracy — encouraging participation, supporting candidates, and bringing energy to the democratic life of Warwick.
💼 What’s on Offer:
Pay: £12.21 per hour + 15.55% holiday pay
Contract: Fixed-term from Week 1 Term 2– End: 30 June 2026
Hours: Up to 10 hours per week before and during Elections and Union Awards
Location: Warwick Students’ Union, University of Warwick campus
📅 Key Dates:Closing date: Mid-day Monday 1st December 2025. Apply early we may close before this date if we receive a high number of applications
Assessment Centre date: Friday 12th December 2025 and followed by a short interview also on Friday 12th December 2025. You must be available to attend the assessment centre in person on campus, and to be considered for the role, you must attend both the assessment centre and the interview.

As a Democracy Assistant, you’ll:
📢 Promote elections, All Student Votes, and forums across campus.
🙋♀️ Help students understand how to get involved and have their say.
🤝 Support candidates during elections, ensuring fairness and accessibility.
🧭 Staff polling stations and help run voting events.
🏆 Assist in delivering the Union Awards and recognising student leadership.
💬 Support the Student Voice Team in gathering feedback and insights.

🧭 Your Journey Through the Your Role
Term 1 – Roots & Awareness
- Recruitment, induction, and training on SU democracy, impartiality, and election processes.
- Promote SU democracy structures (forums, motions, referenda, elections) to students.
- Support communications and outreach to encourage early engagement with democracy.
- Visit “further to reach” sites and ensure information is accessible across all campuses.
- Assist Student Voice Team with early planning for Spring Elections.
Term 2 – Growth & Delivery
- Actively support the Spring Elections process:
- Staffing polling stations and encouraging voting.
- Responding to candidate and voter queries.
- Maintaining impartiality and fairness in all interactions.
- Assist candidates (including disabled candidates) with distributing campaign materials where required.
- Maintain elections publicity and branding in SU spaces and online.
- Promote and support All Student Votes (ASVs) where they arise.
- Support the Student Voice Team in collecting feedback and maintaining a “data-bank” of student issues raised.
Term 3 – Reflection & Recognition
- Support the delivery of the Union Awards, celebrating student leadership and achievements.
- Help gather and analyse feedback from students about the election process.
- Contribute to reports and reflections that improve future elections and democracy engagement.
- Promote ongoing opportunities for students to stay active in SU democracy beyond elections.
- Assist with handover and training materials for future Democracy Assistants.
