What’s on offer:

Hourly Rate: ÂŁ14.53 + holiday pay (15.55%, equivalent to 38 days paid leave per year).
Duration: Fixed Term Contract starting in Term 3, 2026, until 3 July 2027 (subject to a 26-week probationary period).
Hours: You will be expected to work an average of 2 shifts per week (10-12 hours) throughout term time, although we cannot guarantee these hours. Flexibility of working patterns from Monday to Sunday, which includes daytime and evening work, and general working hours between 2.45pm and 2am. Occasional vacation work available.

What’s the role? 🚀
Working as an F&B Team Leader in the Terrace Bar and Venue Bars, you will lead a team of Bar Assistants to deliver a high standard of service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading shifts and supporting day-to-day bar operations 
  • Ensuring food and drinks are served efficiently
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and compliance
  • Supporting and motivating team members during service
  • Helping to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all customers

About the Terrace Bar 🎶
The Terrace Bar is a popular student venue overlooking the piazza. It hosts a range of events, including Juicy Fridays, Glow (LGBTQUIA+ nights), and daily Bus Stop drink offers from 5–8pm.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: F&B Team Leader – Terrace Bar

RESPONSIBLE TO: Deputy Outlet Manager and Management Team, and through them, to Food and Beverage Manager, Head of Strategic Operations, Operations Director, Chief Executive and Board of Trustees

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Bars Assistants

MAIN PURPOSE FOR JOB: To lead a successful team in the food and beverage department, working closely with managers to run an efficient shift. To prepare and serve drinks, ensuring high standards of customer care at all times.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To organise allocated staff on shift and monitor staff performance and appearance.
  • To serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as appropriate and required by the outlet.
  • To serve customers in a friendly and helpful manner, according to organisational policy on customer care.
  • Allocate and monitor staff duties / breaks times.
  • To train & coach Bars Assistants.
  • To keep bar displays and fridges well stocked and tidy.
  • Responsible for co-ordinating change for tills and correct till procedures are followed.
  • To support the Designated Premises Supervisor and Personal License Holders in the upholding of the Premises License covering all licensable activities.
  • To replenish when necessary and keep a well-stocked area throughout the outlet. Support the Food and Beverage team in implementing promotional and merchandising plans.
  • To keep preparation areas and seating areas clean and tidy and free from rubbish. Ensure cleaning sheets are in operation throughout the shift.
  • To operate all machinery and equipment in a correct and safe manner and ensure that the Food and Beverage team do the same.
  • To abide by current legislation concerning health, safety and fire.
  • To comply with the Union's food safety policy & any other relevant hygiene legislation.
  • To commit to reducing the SU’s environmental impact and promote environmental and ethical good practice.
  • The above to be carried out with regard to organisational policy on Equal Opportunities and continuous improvement.
  • To assist operations in all SU run Commercial areas where required.
  • Any other, in line with the job description that may from time to time reasonably be required by the organisation.

EXPECTED STANDARDS

  • To work within expected COVID hygiene and operational regulations at all times.
  • To ensure staff are well presented for their shift in uniform. To follow hygiene regulations at all times.
  • To comply with trading standards legislation at all times.
  • To promote good customer care at all times.
  • Smile at and greet each customer, be polite and courteous at all times. Thank the customer and give undivided attention to each customer.
  • To be knowledgeable about products available and give guidance where appropriate.
  • Timetable staff breaks and sign off time sheets.
  • Ensure F & B Assistants are suitably trained & monitor their performance offering help & guidance when necessary.
  • Ensure the displays are inviting to the customer and that stocks are adequate to meet customers’ needs at all times.
  • Ensure that staff are aware and use the correct till procedures at all times.
  • To ensure that their role is clearly understood, particularly their liability and responsibility.
  • To work within a team to promote a well-stocked outlet and develop ideas for merchandising the products we sell.
  • Ensure that organisational policy on Health and Safety is followed.
  • To use equipment for its designed purpose and according to organisational policy on Health and Safety.
  • To follow manual handling procedures.
  • Use appropriate protective clothing or equipment.
  • Maintain temperature records, cleaning schedules & any other due diligence documentation, taking preventative & corrective action when necessary. Ensure F & B Assistants adhere to laid-down standards.
  • To be carried out in line with the SU’s environmental policy.
